-X-Gluc (5-bromo-4-Chloro-3-indoly-β-D-glucuronide) is a chromogenic substrate for β-glucuronidase used to detect the GUS gene in bacterial colonies. X-Gluc forms an intense blue precipitate in the presence of β-glucuronidase.
